ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham could try to sign Southhampton striker Danny Ings in the summer, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Thursday February 4th).

Hammers boss David Moyes decided against bringing a new striker to the London Stadium in January.

Let’s hope that doesn’t come back to bite us and Michail Antonio remains fit for the remainder of the season.

West Ham are in brilliant shape. We are currently sitting in fifth spot in the Premier League table and we could jump up to fourth if we beat Fulham tomorrow with Liverpool not playing until Sunday.

It could all come crashing down if Antonio suffers an injury, however.

The Hammers were linked with a plethora of strikers throughout the January transfer window.

West Ham could look at Danny Ings again in the summer according to Ex

One of those was Southampton hitman Danny Ings according to ExWHUemployee.

And the Hammers insider told the West Ham Way podcast last night that West Ham could go back in for the 28-year-old Saints ace in the summer:

“People may laugh at this one and I think there will be competition too, Danny Ings. His contract is up next summer as well and he’s desperate to play in Europe as well. It seems at one point that he had more chance of doing that with Southampton than he did us. Now our chances could be much greater than theirs. So next year, if we’re in Europe and they’re not he might be someone we look at.”

Ings joined Southampton from Liverpool for £20 million in the summer of 2019 (BBC) having spent the previous season on loan at St Mary’s.

The hard-working striker has really impressed for Southampton, scoring 40 goals in 85 games so far (Transfermarkt).

Danny Ings would be a superb signing for West Ham.

The 28-year-old really does fit the profile of striker we should be targeting.

Ralph Hasenhuttl will obviously be reluctant to let him leave Southampton, however. So the Hammers will have to offer the Saints a rather substantial fee if we are to prise him away from the south coast club this summer.
