West Ham are leading the race to sign Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara according to a report from Corriere dello Sport (print edition January 13th, page 19).

The 22-year-old Marseille ace is out of contract in the summer.

And it appears as though the Hammers are prepared to wait until then to make their move for the talented French midfield sensation.

Signing Kamara on a free transfer would be an unbelievable coup. He really is an absolutely elite talent and has everything needed to go on and become a real star in the game.

The Marseille ace was a centre-back in his early days but has transformed into one of the best holding midfielders on the planet.

The 22-year-old is not the all action, box-to-box player that Declan Rice is, he is much more defensively minded.

Signing Kamara on a free transfer in the summer would be a real statement from West Ham, such is his quality. And there is some very good news for the Hammers fans to digest.

West Ham leading race to sign Marseille ace Boubacar Kamara

Corriere dello Sport reckon that the Hammers are in the front seat to sign the young defensive midfielder from Marseille on a free transfer from Marseille in five month’s time.

There is one big problem though…Newcastle are said to be in the hunt for Kamara’s signature as well. That is never good news, considering the Toon’s new-found, enormous wealth.

Surely West Ham are the more attractive option than Newcastle at the moment though…surely!

We are currently sitting in fourth spot in the Premier League table whilst the Magpies are languishing down in 19th position, two points adrift of safety.

Kamara would undoubtedly take us to another level entirely. He is a quite brilliant young player and Milan Reports describe the Frenchman as a ‘sensational’ talent.

In 17 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille this season, Kamara has averaged 1.2 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per match. He’s made 58.2 passes on average per game and has recorded an incredibly successful completion rate of 89.4% (Who Scored).

The 22-year-old is energetic, dynamic and would add some much needed athleticism and bite to West Ham’s central midfield ranks.

The worrying thing is that Kamara is allegedly demanding £150k-a-week from his potential suitors (The Sun). In all fairness though, that shouldn’t be a problem, considering the fact that we won’t have to pay a transfer fee for his services.

The fact that West Ham are leading the race for Kamara is great news. It proves that David Moyes and Rob Newman are trying to bring the right players to the London Stadium.

The 22-year-old Frenchman would be an exceptional addition for the Hammers. We think that there is every chance that this one will happen. Let’s just hope that he’s signed as competition for Declan Rice and not as a replacement for him!
