According to ExWHUemployee, West Ham United are interested in signing West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone this summer.
Hammers boss David Moyes will surely be keen to sign a new goalkeeper either this summer or next.
Numbers one and two Lukasz Fabianski and Darren Randolph will be 36 and 34 respectively before the start of next season and are both on the decline.
We do have some exciting young talent coming through the ranks but Joesph Anang, Nathan Trott and Krisztian Hegyi are nowhere near ready for regular Premier League action.
The Athletic recently claimed that West Ham are eyeing a potential swoop for West Brom stopper Sam Johnstone.
If the Baggies go down, as is expected, Sam Allardyce will be looking for around £7.5-10 million for the 28-year-old (The Athletic).
West Ham targeting Sam Johnstone?
ExWHUemployee has backed up the Athletic’s claim regarding the Hammers’ interest in the former Manchester United goalkeeper.
Ex suggested that Johnstone’s agent Will Salthouse could have a big role to play in the keeper swapping the Hawthorns for the London Stadium this summer, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast (April 18th):
“Johnstone of West Brom is a possibility. They look certain to get relegated now so he could want to leave them. The key factor in us signing him is guess who his agent is? Will Salthouse. So for that in itself it probably means there is a strong chance he will be someone we look at.”
Johnstone would be an exceptional addition for West Ham.
Standing at 6ft 4in tall, the West Brom stopper cuts an imposing figure. He is dominant in the air, a great shot stopper and is a very impressive communicator.
The 28-year-old has been a real hit with West Brom. In 124 games for the Baggies, he has let in 166 goals whilst keeping 30 clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).
£10 million for Johnstone would be sensational business for the Hammers. Will Salthouse is a much-maligned figure in east London. If the notorious agent manages to help get this one over the line for us, however, he might just go up in some fans’ estimations.
