Paul Merson praised Jesse Lingard after his fine run of form for West Ham United, when speaking on Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Saturday yesterday (April 17th, 12:12pm).

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester United in January.

And what an incredible addition he has already proven to be for West Ham.

Lingard has racked up an incredible nine goals and three assists in just 10 Premier League games for the Hammers so far.

The hard task for West Ham now will be keeping him at the London Stadium on a permanent basis beyond the end of this season.

Man United may well want to keep him after his fine form over the past two months. Who knows.

Paul Merson raves about Jesse Lingard

The 27-capped England international now looks set to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s Euros.

And Merson told Gillette Soccer Saturday yesterday how much Lingard has impressed him since moving to West Ham on loan:

“I think he’s a real heads or tails for the England squad (Jesse Lingard). If you said in February, Jesse Lingard has got a chance of going to the Euros, you would have been taken out of here in a straight jacket. It’s fact, he wasn’t playing football or anything. Fair play to him, I can’t talk highly enough of the lad. I’m really pleased for him.”

Southgate clearly loves Lingard.

If the 28-year-old finishes the final six games of the season in the same kind of form that he has already shown for West Ham, he will definitely be in the Three Lions squad for the Euros.

And what an incredible turnaround that has been for someone who didn’t even play a Premier League game this season before February 3rd.

Jesse Lingard is on fire at West Ham. We hope he does play a part for England this summer.

More importantly though, we have to keep our fingers crossed that he signs on the dotted line at West Ham this summer. It could be a hugely important transfer for us as a club.
