The Evening Standard has made a West Ham transfer claim that will excite and disappoint in equal measure as Gianluca Scamacca claim is made.
It is not just the future of West Ham captain Declan Rice that is making the headlines in the early days of the summer transfer window.
Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca is the subject of intense speculation too and it very much seems to be a case of no smoke without fire.
Whether it is the forward pushing for a move, that David Moyes wants to cut his losses after a difficult debut season or simply a case of Serie A clubs being desperate to bring him home remains to be seen.

Opinion divided over Scamacca’s future at West Ham
There has been claim and counter claim about Scamacca of late. After just 11 Premier League starts for the Hammers, the 6ft 5in striker is being heavily linked with a move back to Italy, most recently with Roma, where he spent time as a youngster.
Striker Michail Antonio made some refreshingly honest if somewhat unwise and unhelpful comments about Scamacca’s situation recently.
Antonio did make a salient point about his teammate’s situation. He merely said what everyone else had been thinking, however unprofessional that may have been.
And West Ham have been heavily linked with a player in a completely different mould to Scamacca – and more in line with the Jamaican – Viktor Gyokeres.
Earlier this week Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio claimed Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto – himself a rumoured Director of Football target for West Ham – will travel to London to hold talks about Scamacca.

Scamacca divides opinion among West Ham fans.
Some believe the club should keep him and try to get the best out of him next season. Others feel he is simply not suited to the Premier League or playing up front in a Moyes team.
One thing is for certain, though, if he does depart, West Ham fans will fully expect him to be replaced by a top forward.
Now The Evening Standard has made a West Ham transfer claim that will excite and disappoint in equal measure as a new Scamacca claim is made.

Italian may leave with deal agreed but not before Hammers get new man first
Those who want to see Scamacca stay at West Ham may be disappointed as the newspaper claims a deal to send him to Roma on loan has already been agreed – including terms with the player himself.
“The Hammers would be open to releasing him on an initial loan move with an option to buy,” The Evening Standard reports.
But, thankfully, West Ham are looking to bring in a new forward first before sanctioning the move.
“West Ham want to sign a striker before letting Gianluca Scamacca move on loan to Roma,” the report states.
“Scamacca has agreed terms with Roma but must now wait for West Ham to sign a replacement.”
All eyes now on who Moyes might bring in.
