Eric Dier could be off the table for West Ham as Tottenham grow increasingly confident of new deal after U-turn

West Ham United have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier.

According to a report from the Daily Star (Sunday April 12th, page 41), West Ham are interested in signing Tottenham ace Dier.

Tottenham have threatened to sell Dier this summer if he did not agree to a new contract (talkSPORT).

Jose Mourinho has lost Spurs star Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan. The Portuguese will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his midfield options, particularly if he were to sell Dier.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Midfield is also a key area for West Ham boss David Moyes this summer.

West Ham linked with Spurs man whose contract is running down

Carlos Sanchez – not that he has contributed or will be missed – is leaving the club at the end of the season, possibly even on June 30th.

Captain Mark Noble turns 34 next season. Earlier in this campaign he told West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold they must stop relying on him and bring in younger players for the future in a candid interview with talkSPORT.

West Ham’s star midfielder Declan Rice has also been heavily linked with a move away. Although Claret & Hugh insist a senior West Ham source has told them he will not be sold.

Even is West Ham do stay up and make Tomas Soucek’s move permanent, central midfield reinforcements will be needed.

Dier straits for West Ham?

But any possibility of West Ham signing Dier looks to be off the table if a new reports are to be believed.

Football Insider claims Tottenham are increasingly confident Dier will agee a new deal before entering the final 12 months of his contract at Spurs.

The same site claimed last week that Tottenham had a change of heart over Dier’s future during lockdown – presumably to save money due to the financial impact of the global health crisis.

Hammers hopes could hinge on Dier’s hunger for more game time

But any hopes West Ham have of signing Dier will hinge on the player, who may feel he will get more game time at the London Stadium.

He would not have to up sticks given the close proximity between the London rivals.

A combination of injuries, illness and mixed form has seen him drop down the Tottenham pecking order.

The 26-year-old has struggled for regular playing time this season, starting just 10 Premier League games and making only 25 appearances in all competitions.
