It is clear that Niclas Fullkrug has no future at West Ham United, yet a potential return to Werder Bremen does appear to be off the table.
Indeed, while Bremen are interested in signing Fullkrug this summer, there are doubts as to whether it is a feasible operation for them.
Name one REALISTIC Premier League player West Ham should sign this summer 👀⚒️
We've already picked five standout options for you to choose from… 👇
While Fullkrug will almost certainly leave West Ham this summer, the German outfit may simply not be able to afford the 33-year-old.
That is just one of the reasons why they are having doubts.
Bremen doubt West Ham will let Fullkrug leave cheaply
According to leading German publication Kicker, there is not much optimism at Bremen that West Ham would actually let Fullkrug leave the club for a bargain price.
They also doubt whether they could strike a personal agreement with the player, given the size of the wage cut he would presumably have to take.
Which players could actually BENEFIT from a Championship season? 🤨
West Ham paid around £27million to sign the forward in 2024, although they did include an option for AC Milan to buy him at the end of a loan spell that started in January for around £4.3m. The Italian giants won’t be taking that.
Quite whether they are prepared to go lower than that remains to be seen. Frankly, dropping the price appears to be the only way in which the club could realistically find a buyer.

West Ham will surely struggle to sell Fullkrug
Playing with other people’s money, of course, is an easy thing to do. West Ham have to try and at least find a deal that suits them the best.
Still, Fullkrug is something of a millstone around their neck. It’s almost impossible to imagine a world where he stays next season, or one where a club come in and make a bid that West Ham would usually deem as acceptable.
Even if it had gone well for Fullkrug here in east London, he had little resale because of the age at which West Ham signed him (31).
It hasn’t and that unwelcome issue has been exacerbated.
