Balbuena linked with three potential destinations after bidding West Ham farewell

“To my teammates, staffs, workers of the club and specially to the fans my big, big thank you!” Balbuena said on Twitter.

“It was a very special three years of my career! COYI.”

The centre back had been linked with a return to South America, Serie A side Lazio and a reunion with former West Ham boss Pellegrini at Real Betis.

And it appears the pull of a Spanish Hammers reunion with his old manager has proved decisive.

Departing defender set to seal Spanish Hammers reunion with Pellegrini – report

That’s after reports from Spain claimed Balbuena has agreed to join Betis on a free once his West Ham contract officially ends on June 30th.

According to Mundo Deportivo and Football Espana ex Hammers boss Pellegrini has agreed a deal with Balbuena following his release.

Balbuena started the season in fine form for West Ham but lost his place due to injury.

And West Ham’s form was so consistent throughout a season where they secured their most ever Premier League points and Europa League football that Balbuena struggled to get back into the side.

Both Pellegrini and Balbuena could have another West Ham reunion next season if the move goes through as reported.

That’s because Betis are in the Europa League group stages like West Ham and could end up facing one another. We’ll find out when the draw is made in August.
