A new report making claims about Declan Rice’s contract situation at West Ham United are opportunist and wide of the mark.
A report from 90Min yesterday claimed Rice will only sign a new contract at West Ham on the condition that a release clause is inserted.
It is perhaps no surprise that a website has jumped on the lack of news around during the international break by running a story on man of the moment Rice.

New report is same old story but the truth over Rice contract is somewhere in the middle
The West Ham enforcer is in the public eye after his man of the match display, goal and celebration during England’s 4-0 win in Hungary.
But the truth is the 90Min report is, in part, simply rehashed claims made by The Telegraph that Rice saw West Ham’s stance over the summer as ‘prohibitive’ to a move away.
The truth is Rice’s West Ham situation has not changed.
A source at West Ham has told Hammers News there are no issues with Rice and have insisted he is ‘happy and committed’ to the club.

West Ham’s take on Rice situation is six fold
Behind closed doors West Ham’s take on the Rice situation is six-fold.
- That The 22-year-old talisman’s deal is for another three years and includes an option until 2025
- No offers have been received for the player
- To recognise and reward him, the club have offered to significantly improve his wages, despite already being on a long deal
- Rice has come through the Academy and the club have given him the platform to be a star and in his preferred central midfield role
- West Ham feel his commitment to the club is clear in his performances, celebrations and relationship with players and staff
- Rice is also the club’s captain when Noble doesn’t play
Rice is well within his rights to be ambitious. And if he does not feel West Ham can match those ambitions then the situation will have to eventually come to a head one way or another.

Rice well within his rights to be ambitious but Hammers are within theirs to demand what they see fit
But West Ham gave him the chance to make it as a Premier League player when he was discarded by Chelsea.
They gave him the freedom to play and improve in central midfield too.
And just as Rice is within his rights to want to further his career elsewhere, West Ham are within theirs to demand whatever price they see fit.
One thing Rice will never do is sully his good name with the club’s fans.
He’s just not that guy.
So ignore the noise and enjoy Rice this season. If it is to be his last then West Ham will have got what they demand and the player will undoubtedly get a more realistic chance of success somewhere else.
In the meantime Rice and West Ham is a match made in heaven on both sides.
Let’s just enjoy a generational talent.
