No nonsense pundit Dean Saunders has given a piece of his mind to West Ham United target Matheus Pereira over his future.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion playmaker Pereira this summer as it becomes increasingly clear a move for Jesse Lingard looks unlikely.
Hammers supporters had been excited at the prospect of signing the Brazilian.
West Ham target Pereira appeared to make it clear he wants Al Hilal move for the money
On one hand Pereira’s comments might be viewed as refreshingly honest.
But he has also been criticised for being motivated by money to play in a footballing backwater as opposed to challenging himself in the Premier League and Europe with West Ham.
Indeed many West Ham fans have since questioned whether they would even want Pereira if that is the midfielder’s attitude.
No nonsense Saunders gives it to Pereira straight
Now talkSPORT pundit Saunders has spoken out on the situation.
And the Welshman did not hold back in his words of advice to the West Ham target.
“If you wanna leave, put it in writing,” Saunders said on talkSPORT.
“Obviously the player can’t put it in writing because he loses money and he loses the fans’s respect…
“I’ve seen Pereira’s letter, basically he should just put a line through it and say ‘look I’m going for the money’.
Hammers dodging a bullet?
“The ‘fair and correct manner’ is you put it in writing to the club – ‘I want to leave the club’ and the club go ‘Ok we’ll put you up for sale’ or they say ‘no you’ve got a contract, you’re staying here’.
“But I think the manager has jumped the gun a little bit by saying (he’s not committed), he’s also devaluing him. And at the end of the day they’re trying to get the best price for him.”
Saunders makes some salient points that West Ham fans will undoubtedly agree with.
According to West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh, Pereira is NOT a prime Moyes target.
So perhaps this saga is for the best if it means the Scot gets to see Pereira’s true colours ahead of what would have been a big money move.
