Respected journalist David Ornstein has delivered news that will come as a big boost to West Ham United’s hopes of signing Tammy Abraham.
West Ham finally know what price they have to pay for David Moyes’s prime target Abraham after Roma had a £34 million bid accepted by Chelsea.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have accepted the Serie A side’s bid but Abraham must now decide if he wants to move to the Italian capital.
West Ham get big boost over Tammy Abraham hopes
And according to an exclusive from The Athletic’s Ornstein, Abraham is very much undecided on the move.
That will come as welcome news to West Ham’s own hopes of landing the Blues outcast.
Particularly as Ornstein also revealed that Roma have set Abraham a deadline of Friday to decide before they move on to other targets.
Ornstein reveals Abraham is undecided on Roma move as Italians set Friday deadline
“Roma chief Tiago Pinto due in London over next 48 hours for Tammy Abraham talks,” Ornstein reports in The Athletic.
“Understand clubs agreed on permanent deal and buyback but 23-year-old undecided…
“Roma want the situation to be finalised as soon as possible. If Friday passes without resolution, it is anticipated that their attentions will turn to other candidates.”
That could open the door for West Ham where Abraham would get guaranteed game time.
Plenty of game time and staying in London could boost West Ham bid but reported Arsenal interest is a worry
And there would be plenty of it given that injury-prone Michail Antonio has to be carefully managed and the Hammers are playing in Europe too.
Reported rival interest from Arsenal – Abraham’s boyhood club – will also be a concern for West Ham.
But Moyes has reportedly waited this long to get a chance to sign his number one target so it would be a surprise if West Ham did not make a move soon.
If Abraham does decide to accept Roma’s offer it will leave West Ham less than three weeks to sign an alternative.
Jarrod Bowen can be – and has – played as a forward under Moyes.
But Antonio is West Ham’s only true out-and-out striker.
