West Ham United boss David Moyes has been misrepresented by the likes of Sky Sports over comments he has made about transfers.

West Ham held their media day on Monday ahead of the start of the new season.

Reporters from the mainstream media and nationals including the likes of Sky Sports and talkSPORT were present at Rush Green for interviews with Moyes and players including skipper Mark Noble.

Sky Sports misrepresented Moyes comments over West Ham transfers

Earlier today Sky Sports posted a video interview from the media day online.

Headlined ‘Moyes keen for more West Ham incomings’ the video was edited to show Moyes saying he could make no guarantees over signings.

The quotes were taken by various sites and many West Ham sites as fans – understandably – went into something of a meltdown as the quotes were repeated on social media.

But Hammers News can reveal that the club were not happy that Moyes was misrepresented in the footage as he was specifically talking about signing a striker – NOT about making signings in general, which the club are confident of doing.

Moyes simply said that he could not make 100% guarantees that West Ham would sign a striker. The Scot was not – as Sky Sports made it seem – talking about signings in general.

Whether West Ham have raised their displeasure at the misrepresentation with Sky Sports is unclear.

Hypocritical media giant forced to remove story

But the hypocritical broadcaster and creators of Frankenstein’s monster that is the “Big Six” has since removed the video from its site, with the headline still displayed in the website URL.

Not helpful on the eve of a new season with fans already growing frustrated over the lack of arrivals.

What Moyes ACTUALLY said about transfers was a lot more positive. Yes the Scot was non-committal as he has stated so often he prefers to say less and do more.

His quotes were better represented on talkSPORT and in The Evening Standard which we have repeated in full below:

“We’re trying to improve. What we’re saying to ourselves, or I am certainly, is I want to add to our squad if I can do so.

“I think I’ve got a good team but I need to add to it if I can but I want to do the right thing. We brought in Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal, Jarrod Bowen in the last 12-18 months, all of them have been successful.

“If we can try and bring in another three that are successful like that then it’ll be excellent but it won’t be an easy thing to do.

Moyes ‘no guarantees’ comment related specifically to striker signing and Hammers boss was positive but realistic and honest over transfers

“I do think we’ve got room to improve, whether that be the squad, whether that be the team, whether it be certain positions on the pitch. I hope we’ll try to do that.

“We always want competition and I am always looking to see what options there are.

“I am hoping by the end of the window we might have some more additions but I can’t guarantee anything,” Moyes said when asked about bringing in a new striker.

“There is a long way to go in the window yet.

“We’ve improved in the goalkeeping area, we thought it was something we’d like to do. Good competition, I think most people saw how well Areola did at Fulham last season.

“I hope that he’ll give us competition there. I want to make sure that we do have competition and I’m hoping we do by the end of the transfer window.”
