David Moyes will give Said Benrahma one more season to prove himself at West Ham United.
That’s the view of reliable insider ExWHUemployee after mounting speculation over the Algerian’s future.
There has been increasing talk in West Ham circles that Benrahma could be sold this summer just six months after the club completed a £25 million deal to make his loan move permanent.
Benrahma enduring difficult debut season under taskmaster Moyes
West Ham had initially signed Benrahma on loan for the season with an obligation to buy. And activated that clause early in order to free up a loan spot to be able to sign Jesse Lingard.
Benrahma has endured a largely disappointing debut campaign for West Ham.
While there have been a couple of important assists, Benrahma is yet to score for West Ham.
The former Brentford man has struggled to establish himself under Moyes and on the odd occasion he starts a game, he rarely finishes it.
Moyes has been strict with Benrahma. The Scot has demanded he do more defensively, be more efficient with the ball and warned he must stop trying to force that first goal.
Benrahma says he feels best when ‘off the leash’ as speculation mounts over summer sale
But Benrahma said he feels at his best when he is ‘off the leash’ in an interview with Gaffer last week.
Moyes was unimpressed with Benrahma and his fellow substitutes in the 3-2 win over Leicester last time out – read the full story here.
And many fans believe Benrahma could be offloaded to help fund a permanent move for Lingard this summer.
Supporters point to claims that Moyes never wanted to sign Benrahma in the first place (Claret & Hugh) as further proof he does not have a future at West Ham.
Indeed Moyes himself has admitted Eberechi Eze was his first choice but the Hammers could not afford the deal at the time (Football London).
Insider believes Moyes will give £25m man one more season
ExWHUemployee has once again said Moyes doesn’t rate Benrahma.
But the anonymous insider believes the playmaker will be given one more season to prove himself at West Ham.
“He did need to sign him because it was an obligation to sign him so they had no choice really so that he could then get Lingard in on the loan, that was the reason he did it (early),” Ex said on the latest West Ham Way podcast.
“I don’t think Moyes ever really rated him. I’ve told this story before, Moyes wanted Eze and (David) Sullivan wanted Benrahma. The argument is now that they persuaded Moyes that Benrahma was the better buy. But I think the fact that he’s barely played consistently shows that Moyes is still not convinced. Although he has said he thinks he’s a talent, but he’s got to deliver more in the Premier League.
“I’d be surprised if they sold him this early. I think they’ll give him another season. I mean the likes of (Felipe) Anderson and (Manuel) Lanzini and a few others are more likely to be sold ahead of Benrahma at this point.”
