David Moyes’ right-hand man Billy McKinlay offers West Ham transfer tease as clock ticks down

David Moyes’ right-hand man Billy McKinlay has offered a West Ham transfer tease as the clock ticks down on the January window.

It’s important to note that the top source inside West Ham told Hammers News back in November that the club intended to be active in the January transfer window.

That contact also exclusively told us the Hammers must first ship out players to create space on the wage bill and in the squad for new arrivals.

This was before David Moyes was hit by a spate of injuries to key players at the same time he has lost Mohammed Kudus and Nayef Aguerd to AFCON.

So it is understandable that some West Ham fans are concerned by a lack of progress in the transfer market with two weeks remaining until the window closes.

Moyes’ right-hand man offers transfer tease

At the weekend there was mixed transfer news from the top source at West Ham again when speaking to us on Hammers News.

We were told nothing is close ‘at the moment’ but the club is ‘looking everywhere’ for signings.

West Ham are well placed to really push for a top six finish in the Premier League and have a tilt at more European glory having made the last 16 of the Europa League.

But some fans have cynically suggested West Ham have no intention of spending money or showing ambition by making a push for signings this month.

Many have noted Tottenham’s show of ambition in their own bid to try and secure a top five berth – which is likely to be rewarded with Champions League football.

But Moyes’ right-hand man Billy McKinlay has offered a West Ham transfer tease as the clock ticks down on the January window.

‘Always looking to do business’

McKinlay has stepped in for Moyes for the pre-match press conferences for the FA Cup games against Bristol City.

And he offered one tantalising soundbite on transfers as the Scot revealed West Ham are indeed very much on the hunt for signings to improve the squad.

“You’re probably asking the wrong person (about transfers) but listen we’re always looking to do business in terms of improving the squad,” McKinlay said on West Ham’s website.

“Really difficult window, as everybody always talks about, January is.

“So look we’ll be on the lookout to see if there’s anything that we think can improve the squad.

“But we’re also fully focused on what we’ve got in the building.”
