Hammers boss David Moyes issues 15-word West Ham summer transfer pledge after Chelsea defeat which will reassure fans.

The Premier League promises to be more fiercely competitive than perhaps ever before next season.

West Ham have established themselves as a genuine European outfit and top six contenders under Moyes.

The Scot is facing a major rebuild at West Ham this summer with as many as six to 10 new players required to overhaul the second oldest squad in the Premier League and replace those leaving, retiring or clearly not in the manager’s plans.

West Ham’s shallow squad have done Moyes and the club proud this season. Indeed the manager has worked a minor miracle with what he has available.

That was in evidence in a harsh 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Moyes fielded a second string West Ham side to keep his star players ready for the huge Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.

And they almost came away with a deserved point but succumbed to a last minute Christian Pulisic winner after Craig Dawson got himself sent off for a professional foul.

Moyes is usually guarded on matters such as transfers.

But after the club failed to sign any of the players he wanted in January, the Hammers boss has been noticeably more vocal about his transfer expectations ahead of the summer window.

In an interview with Alan Shearer for The Athletic recently, Moyes made his feelings perfectly clear to West Ham’s owners over his summer transfer demands.

The Scot said West Ham have to show they can go out and get the right players, not only to progress, but just to remain where they are in and around the European mix in the fiercely competitive Premier League.

After the failings of the board to get any deals done in January, though, supporters are yet to be convinced the manager will be backed sufficiently.

With Declan Rice’s future the subject of much debate this week, Moyes was questioned about his talisman’s contract situation.

Then Moyes issued a 15-word West Ham summer transfer pledge after the Chelsea defeat which will reassure fans.

“We’ve got other priorities, trying to add to the squad and get other positions in,” Moyes told The Telegraph.

According to a top Hammers insider last month, West Ham’s new Czech billionaire co-owner Daniel Kretinsky is set to show his hand in the summer by boosting Moyes’s transfer kitty to the tune of £150m.

The £150m Kretinsky transfer cash claim was made on West Ham website Claret and Hugh last month.

The proof of the pudding – as they say – will be in the eating. And West Ham must be ready to seriously back the manager when the summer window opens on June 9th.
