David Moyes wants to sign a long-term successor to Aaron Cresswell using his Red Bull blueprint, quite literally.

Diego Maradona’s eternal link to West Ham

Left-back has been an issue for West Ham for some time.

Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku have been rejuvenated this season in Moyes’s new wingback formation.

But it is felt a new left-back will be needed if West Ham are to be able to revert to a 442 formation.

Cresswell resurgent but West Ham still need long-term successor at left-back

Cresswell proved against Villa he can still operate as a left-back as part of a four.

But the Hammers did not look as solid in that formation.

It does not change the fact West Ham need a long-term successor to Cresswell.

And according to a new report from The Telegraph, Moyes wants to raid Red Bull Leipzig to continue his Red Bull blueprint.

Moyes said he had spent time between his two West Ham spells studying the Red Bull model and was suitably impressed.

Moyes wants Red Bull starlet Bondswell to continue Red Bull blueprint with Hammers

The Scot wants to turn West Ham into a team full of young, quick, energetic players hungry to prove themselves at the top level.

And The Telegraph claims West Ham want 18-year-old Matthew Bondswell.

Teenager Bondswell moved to Germany from Nottingham Forest back in 2018. He joined up with the Leipzig academy at the Red Bull Arena.

According to the report the England Under 18 defender is viewed as a player who has the potential to make it in the Premier League and provide competition at left-back.

No potential fee is quoted in the article.

But the report claims West Ham face competition from Chelsea and Sporting.

Hammers offer ex Forest youngster a more realistic chance of first team breakthrough

Chelsea spent a whopping £45m to sign their long-term left-back Ben Chilwell in the summer, though.

So West Ham instantly have the advantage of offering Bondswell a much more realistic path to first team football.

The Telegraph state that Moyes is ‘monitoring Bondswell’s situation’.

So it will be interesting to see if the Hammers can bag the hugely promising left-back when the transfer window opens next month.
