West Ham United have been heavily linked with a deal to sign Juventus defender Daniele Rugani but he is set to be unveiled by Valencia instead.
That’s according to a new report emerging from Spain this afternoon.
West Ham’s interest in Rugani was revealed by Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio last week.
The likes of Sevilla, Fulham and Rennes were also credited with an interest in the 6ft 3in defender.
West Ham were in driving seat for Rugani
But Di Marzio claimed West Ham were the only ones in ‘genuine negotiations’ with Juve for the 26-year-old.
West Ham spirits were lifted by a superb 4-0 win over Wolves on Sunday night.
Like West Ham, Valencia are yet to make any new signings this summer despite selling several players.
Los Che beat the Hammers to striker Maxi Gomez in the summer of 2019.
Gomez all over again as Valencia steal a march – report
And now they look set to do the same again with Rugani according to Cadena Cope.
“He (Rugani) has been talking to the player’s agent at Valencia CF for a long time,” Cadena Cope claim.
“His conditions fit the needs of the squad and the Navarrese coach is delighted with his possible arrival.
“The Italian’s salary is high, but Rugani would be willing to make an effort because he is looking for minutes that can take him to the next European Championship with his country.”
Another one bites the dust for Moyes as focus switches to Rodon?
It will be another blow to David Moyes, who has missed out on a series of reported targets this summer including the likes of Eberechi Eze and Ollie Watkins.
It does however perhaps explain West Ham’s new £15 million bid for Swansea defender Joe Rodon (Football Insider).
The performances of Fabian Balbuena and Aaron Cresswell as the left centre-back in a new 5231 formation have eased West Ham’s immediate concerns over their squad depth.
But make no mistake West Ham need new recruits as it could still be a long season ahead with injuries – like the one suffered by Ryan Fredericks on Sunday night – inevitable.
