Chelsea seemingly could be set to blow West Ham United out the water in the race to sign a top-class striker this summer.
That’s because top journalist Fabrizio Romano has just made a new transfer claim about Chelsea’s interest in a Premier League centre-forward.
West Ham have made some brilliant signings this summer, and Julen Lopetegui has brought the excitement back to the London Stadium.
One of the most important signings made by the Hammers boss this summer was the addition of Niclas Fullkrug.
The German will be a huge player for us once he’s fully fit, I have absolutely no doubts about that whatsoever.
Fullkrug is a major upgrade on Michail Antonio, and he should be the perfect fit for Lopetegui’s system at the London Stadium.
However, it could be argued that we need more competition and cover in the centre-forward department, with Danny Ings and the aforementioned Antonio both well past their best.
There is someone out there who West Ham have been chasing for quite some time now, but Chelsea could end up beating us to his signature.
Chelsea could blow West Ham out the water in striker race
The west London outfit clearly have more financial firepower than the Hammers.
And the fact that they’re playing in Europe this season, with aspirations of qualifying for the Champions League next term, means that they will have no problem attracting players.

And now, the Blues could end up beating West Ham to the signing of Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran – a player who Lopetegui apparently still wants to bring to the London Stadium.
Now though, the Spaniard’s chances of doing just that could be well and truly dead in the water.
Fabrizio Romano spoke to Caught Offside about Duran’s future, and hinted that Chelsea are a club to keep an eye on regarding the Colombian.
The Italian football journalist said, “Keep an eye on the striker situation, as another player they (Chelsea) still like is Jhon Duran.“
So if Chelsea really are in for the 20-year-old striker, that’s very bad news indeed for the Hammers.
Duran is the perfect striker for us – he’s young, has explosive pace, terrific movement and most importantly, he’s the polar opposite to Fullkrug.
This means that Lopetegui would have the option of really mixing things up if he needs to do so.
I like Fullkrug a lot, but Jhon Duran would be a signing for the future for West Ham.
However, if Chelsea swoop in for the South American hot-shot, our hopes of bringing him to the London Stadium before deadline day will be dashed instantly.
