Thiago Silva has admitted that he tried to convince the powers that be at Chelsea to sign West Ham star Lucas Paqueta in the summer.
The 25-year-old ended up joining the Hammers in £51 million deal (The Sun), and the comments from Chelsea skipper Silva prove just how talented he is.

Paqueta made his debut for the Hammers on Wednesday night at the London Stadium against Tottenham and he really impressed.
Perhaps Chelsea’s Thiago Silva was looking on thinking what might have been.
In fairness, Thomas Tuchel has plenty of talented midfielders amongst his ranks at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea would have been in even stronger, had they signed Paqueta though…
Thiago Silva makes Lucas Paqueta admission
The Brazilian superstar has been a real hit since joining Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain.
He’s nearly 38 but is still one of the very best defenders in world football. So anything that the Brazilian says carries real weight.
Thiago Silva was speaking to ESPN Brasil and suggested that he tried to get Chelsea to sign Lucas Paqueta in the summer:
“No, I didn’t talk to Paquetá about his coming here. I heard he was about to leave Lyon. I had some conversations here with some people, but unfortunately things didn’t work out. Even because we weren’t 100% sure he would leave Lyon. The last week arrived, this thing got a lot stronger. And we had some other priorities, because of injuries we have on the team. So we needed a striker, another defender. A midfielder, a little less. I think that’s why things didn’t evolve well. But I’m happy for Paquetá because West Ham certainly have a very good structure, it’s a great club in the Premier League scene.”
West Ham have obviously got an unbelievable player on our hands haven’t we!
Paqueta will undoubtedly go on to become a huge star in the Premier League, just like his countryman has done with Chelsea.
Thiago Silva wanted Lucas Paqueta at Chelsea but he’s a West Ham player now.
