Gideon Kodua became the first player to leave West Ham United on loan during the summer of 2025 when the midfielder joined Luton Town on a temporary deal from the Premier League outfit.
He is unlikely to be the last.
Carlton Cole, the former striker who now works as the Loans and Pathway Manager at West Ham United, accepts that there are plenty more deals to be arranged for some of the brightest young talent at Rush Green.
Kodua suffered play-off heartbreak with Wycombe Wanderers last season and now returns to League One hoping to go one step further. A Hammers captain at Under-18 level, Kodua reunites with his ex-Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield at Luton Town.
Callum Marshall and Patrick Kelly are likely to have plenty of admirers too after fine spells with Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers respectively.
And Cole, speaking to talkSPORT, admits that highly-rated goalkeeper Mason Terry is likely to follow Kodua out the door sooner rather than later too.
A first shot in the Football League may be Terry’s reward for a superb season out at Hornchurch.

Carlton Cole says West Ham United plan to loan out Mason Terry
Mason Terry was likened to England stalwart Jordan Pickford last term.
While Pickford turned heads at Darlington and Alfreton Town before making his name at Sunderland, Terry also made a mighty impression in non-league. The 20-year-old kept an impressive 17 clean sheets between the sticks at sixth-tier Hornchurch.
Cole now confirms that talks are underway regarding Terry’s next step, albeit while stopping short of confirming exactly where the Canvey-born glovesman will be playing his football in 2025/26.
“The season’s just started. We’ve got a couple of deals through, out on loan,” Cole says. “Gideon Kodua has joined Luton Town on loan.
“And we’ve got another lad, Mason Terry, a goalkeeper, that we are working on.
“We are going to be working around the clock. But the only thing is, we’ve just got to know what Graham Potter has coming in before we let people go.”
Extremely highly regarded behind the scenes, Mason Terry was chosen to captain West Ham at the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens tournament at the beginning of the summer by Under-21 coach Mark Robson.
“It’s a real honour to wear the badge and represent the Club in such a big tournament,” Terry said shortly before the Hammers suffered a semi-final loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.
“When Mark spoke to me and said he wanted me to captain the side, I felt privileged and delighted. It means a lot.”

Callum Marshall impresses Graham Potter in pre-season win
The natural next step for Terry feels like a loan spell at a League Two or maybe even a League One outfit.
The aforementioned Callum Marshall made relatively light work of England’s third tier during his time in Yorkshire. Marshall won Huddersfield’s Young Player of the Year award, and picked up where he left off with a superb solo goal during West Ham’s first game of their pre-season tour.
Marshall joined Andy Irving and Lucas Paqueta on the scoresheet during Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Grasshopper Zurich in Switzerland.
“Andy Irving contributed to that well. It was nice for him to score. Jarrod [Bowen] did really well for the goal, too. The second half was a bit more open, but I think Callum’s goal was really well-taken and the penalty [from Paqueta] just kills it off,” Potter said on an afternoon where El Hadji Malick Diouf impressed on his West Ham debut.
“From a fitness perspective, from a tactical perspective, it was a really good day.
