Big West Ham blow, report claims Leeds could try to sign 'unreal' Maxwel Cornet this summer

West Ham United could now face competition from Leeds United in the race to sign Maxwel Cornet from Burnley this summer.

That’s according to a report from 90 Min who claim that Leeds are keeping tabs on Cornet’s current situation and could enter the race to sign him this summer.

Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the 25-year-old Burnley ace to the London Stadium this summer, so interest in the Ivorian from Leeds will undoubtedly be an unwelcome inconvenience for the Scot.

West Ham are still thought to the leading the race for Cornet according to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg.

And the East London outfit may have a secret weapon in the race for the Burnley star’s signature, with David Sullivan’s pal Will Salthouse representing him.

Leeds allegedly could push West Ham all the way for Cornet though.

That obviously is bad news for the Hammers, who already face competition from Everton and Newcastle for the Ivory Coast international’s signature this summer…

Leeds to challenge West Ham for Maxwel Cornet

According to a report from 90 Min, Leeds boss Jesse Marsch could attempt to bring the Burnley star to Elland Road this summer.

The last thing West Ham need is more competition for the 25-year-old.

What a signing Cornet would be for the Hammers or the Whites!

Cornet joined Burnley from Lyon in the summer of 2021 for around £13 million (BBC).

He has been a huge hit at Turf Moor, bagging nine goals and two assists in 29 games for the Clarets (Transfermarkt).

We believe that the Burnley speed demon would be a sensational signing for West Ham or Leeds.

He’s one of the quickest forwards in the Premier League and can operate on either wing or at left-back.

Cornet can even play as a striker if need be!

The 29-capped Ivory Coast international is aggressive, direct and loves running at opposing defenders.

West Ham have struggled without any real pace in our team over the past year or so. Michail Antonio has definitely lost half a yard.

The Premier League is built on power and pace nowadays. The Burnley star has been described as an ‘explosive player’ by ESPN pundit Ale Moreno. Meanwhile, Last Word on Sports label Cornet as an ‘amazing’ dribbler and the Nottingham Post have called him ‘unreal’.

The versatile Burnley ace is exactly the kind of signing David Moyes should be making in the summer transfer window.

Whether West Ham are able to hold off competition from Leeds in the race to sign Maxwel Cornet remains to be seen though.
