Big blow for West Ham as Newcastle reportedly keen to sign 23-year-old in the January transfer window

West Ham could face a real battle if we are to sign Lloyd Kelly in the January transfer window with Newcastle allegedly chasing his signature.

That’s according to a report from The Sun who claim that Kelly is firmly on the radar of Newcastle this month.

David Moyes wants to bring the 23-year-old centre-back to the London Stadium this month according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Newcastle’s need for a top-class central defender is just as desperate as West Ham’s though.

With the Magpies’ new-found wealth, they will be serious players in the transfer window, not only this month but for years to come.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has a lot of work to do at St James’ Park in the January transfer window. And it seems as though one of his first port of calls could be to bring a key Hammers target to Tyneside.

Newcastle challenging West Ham for Lloyd Kelly January transfer window capture

The Sun claims that the Toon are eying up a January swoop for the 23-year-old Bournemouth defender.

That could be a real problem for the Hammers.

David Moyes hardly has lavish funds at his disposal and our wage budget will undoubtedly be nowhere near what Newcastle’s is.

Kelly would be the perfect January addition for West Ham and could be the ideal long-term replacement for 33-year-old Angelo Ogbonna, when the Italian does eventually hang up his boots at the London Stadium.

The Athletic recently described the Bournemouth defender as an ‘unbelievable’ talent.

In 21 Championship outings for Bournemouth so far this season, Kelly has averaged one interception and 4.8 clearances per game. He’s also won an average of 3.1 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).

Crucially, as far as West Ham are concerned, Kelly if left-footed and is a very good passer of the football.

The 23-year-old has made 80 passes per game on average with an incredibly impressive completion rate of 85% (Who Scored).

Kelly joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in the summer of 2019 for a fee that could eventually rise to around £20 million (Daily Mail).

So the Cherries will undoubtedly demand a lot more than that if they are to sell him this month. We just think that Lloyd Kelly will be far too expensive for the Hammers…certainly in January.

And with Newcastle thought to be in the race for the 23-year-old’s signature as well, our hopes of signing the Bournemouth centre-back may be over already.
