West Ham boss David Moyes reportedly 'really likes' 22-year-old international striker with 20 goals this season

West Ham boss David Moyes would ‘very much like’ to bring Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz to the London Stadium this month.

That’s according to a report from Tutto Mercato Web who claim that the Hammers could make a January transfer window swoop for the 22-year-old hitman.

West Ham’s desperate need for a new striker is clear and obvious for everyone to see. We are far too reliant on Michail Antonio.

It’s unfair on the 31-year-old to expect him to perform at his very best week in, week out with no competition or cover to help him out.

West Ham above a genuine chance of qualifying for the Champions League this season. Chances like this don’t come around too often considering the amount of Premier League clubs who have incredible wealth at their disposal.

In order to disrupt the status quo though, Moyes has to make a couple of top-class signings before the January window slams shut.

His main priority should be the addition of a proven goalscorer. And it seems as though that’s exactly what the Scot has in mind…

West Ham boss David Moyes eyeing January swoop for prolific striker

Tutto Mercato Web reckon that the Hammers manager is a very big fan of Blackburn hitman Ben Brereton Diaz.

And it’s little wonder as to why…

The 22-year-old Chile international has bagged 20 goals in 26 Championship games for Blackburn Rovers so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Brereton Diaz has also scored three goals in nine appearances for Chile, so he’s been producing the goods consistently at a very high level over there past 12 months or so.

He is a good finisher and is a hard working striker.

Word of warning though…

Brereton Diaz’s impressive numbers could very well be a complete anomaly. Before this season, the Chile international had scored just 20 goals in 146 games for both Nottingham Forest and Blackburn (Transfermarket).

One swallow doesn’t make a summer as the old saying goes. Who’s to say that the 22-year-old isn’t riding a wave of confidence having recently been called up to the Chile squad and will soon come back to earth with a bang?

The Sun reckon that Blackburn could demand as much as £25 million for the striker in the January window.

That sounds like an awful lot of money for West Ham to be splashing out on the Rovers hitman.

Perhaps a fee closer to £15 million would be a fairer price to pay. Blackburn hold all of the cards though. They are in no rush to sell him. Despite the fact that the Chile international is out of contract at Ewood Park in the summer, Rovers have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

If West Ham are to sign him in January, we will probably need to make an offer of at least £20 million. And we just can’t see this one happening anytime soon.
