West Ham United appear destined to miss out on German youth star Noel Aseko as Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich trigger the buyback clause in the contract of the Hannover loanee.
In a week in which the magical Preston Fearon very nearly secured National League Cup success for the Hammers, another extremely-talented teenage midfielder has been the subject of much discussion.
West Ham United were credited with an interest in Noel Aseko by German site Transfermarkt.
Heartbreak for Herrick and West Ham! 😩
What did you make of that National League Cup final loss?
However, such has been the speed of his development during a spell in the second-tier with Hannover, the mighty Bayern Munich have opted to trigger the £1.3 million buy-back clause in Aseko’s contract.
Noel Aseko stays at Bayern Munich to end West Ham United hopes
Per Kicker, Bayern now plan to mould the Berlin-born 20-year-old into a replacement for the departing Leon Goretzka; a summer sale to West Ham, Brighton, Villarreal or Galatasaray seemingly not something they are going to consider.
“Noel has developed well with us, both on and off the pitch,” Hannover managing director Jorg Schmadtke said when confirming Aseko’s Bavaria return.
“The formalities are now settled. We remain open to further discussions with both the player and FC Bayern.”

Aseko, who models his game on Chelsea legend N’Golo Kante, has scored three goals while providing a further five assists for a Hannover side in fifth place. Just about hanging onto a play-off spot, the 96ers are four places and 13 points ahead of Callum Marshall’s VFL Bochum outfit.
Alpha Toure and Evertton Araujo heavily linked with the Hammers
West Ham continue to be linked with a number of up-and-coming midfielders from across the continent.
The Hammers reportedly bid £6 million for Alpha Toure, the Senegal starlet plying his trade for FC Metz in France, during the January transfer window. In the aftermath, Toure admitted the Premier League would be a ‘dream’ destination.

“It’s always flattering when clubs like West Ham or Besiktas are interested in me,” Toure told Africa Foot recently.
“But I’m under contract with Metz and I’m very focused on my season. I leave that to my representatives and the club. I’m focused on the pitch. As long as I’m wearing the Metz jersey, I’ll give 100 per cent.
“The Premier League is a very intense league, with a lot of pace and physicality. It’s a dream for many players. But one thing at a time.”
According to reports in Brazil, West Ham are tracking Flamengo’s ‘new Casemiro’ Evertton Araujo, too.
But as the aforementioned Preston Fearon goes from strength to strength with the Under-21s, as Mohamadou Kante proves himself a genuine first-team option under Nuno Espirito Santo, it remains to be seen which direction the Hammers go.
