Aston Villa are reportedly in the box seat to sign Weston McKennie for just £26 million, so what are West Ham doing?

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Aston Villa are leading the race to sign the Juventus midfielder in January, and West Ham don’t even get a mention.

What on east is going on? David Moyes reportedly wants to bring the 24-year-old to the London Stadium.

And he’d be the absolute perfect replacement for Declan Rice, when the England international inevitably leaves West Ham.

McKennie possesses all of there attributes that we need in the middle of the park, and if Villa beat us to his signature, it will highlight just how poorly we are being run as a club at the moment…

Aston Villa leading race for Weston McKennie

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Villa are in pole position to sign the United States international this winter.

If Unai Emery does manage to bring McKennie to Villa Park, it will be a massive blow for the Hammers.

McKennie was described as a ‘brilliantly bright’ midfielder by Bundesliga’s official website last year.

The American is an incredibly industrious, hard-working and energetic central midfielder.

The 24-year-old has absolutely everything needed to succeed in the Premier League. He has stamina, pace and power in abundance and is the embodiment of everything that West Ham currently lack.

So why earth aren’t West Ham pushing Villa harder in the race for his signature?

Should Aston Villa end up wining the race to sign Weston McKennie, West Ham will be left looking very stupid indeed. And it will be all the evidence we need that David Sullivan has no intention of handing David Moyes any more money, for now at least.

In fairness though, I can’t really blame him. Moyes has proven to be terrible when it comes to player recruitment at West Ham, certainly over the past 18 months or so.

If Aston Villa do sign Weston McKennie, then good luck to them. They are clearly on a completely different trajectory to us at the moment.
