West Ham United youngster Pierre Ekwah seems to be set for a January move to Championship club Sunderland.

That’s according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon who shared on his official Patreon page that the Hammers are happy to allow the 21-year-old midfielder to join Sunderland on a short-term loan deal.

Ekwah joined the Hammers from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.

The young Frenchman is still yet to play for the West Ham senior team in a competitive game, but he has always looked really good during the friendlies that he has played.

And he looked very good indeed during our mid-season friendly against Cambridge United last month.

However, it seems as though David Moyes is prepared to let him leave the London Stadium on loan, in order to get some regular first-team action…

West Ham are ready to send French midfielder Pierre Ekwah to Sunderland on loan. Promising and versatile Ekwah could get game time with the Black Cats and comes within their strategy of raiding the under-21 market. Boss Tony Mowbray wants two or three new faces and was keen on experience. But Ekwah has become available and Hammers are happy to see him head for Wearside.

I actually think a loan move will be good for the 21-year-old.

He’s a top talent, but clearly doesn’t have a path to the first-team currently at West Ham.

The West Ham youngster should start regularly for Sunderland, and it will be interesting to keep an eye on his progress on Wearside between now and the end of the season.
