Aston Villa and Newcastle United seem to be threatening to hijack one of West Ham United’s supposed January transfer window plans.

West Ham need to bolster their squad in almost every single department in the January transfer window, while Aston Villa and Newcastle are on the look-out for reinforcements as well.

Nuno Espirito Santo is acutely aware of West Ham’s dire situation right now and he has urged the fans to back him and his players to the hilt.

The Hammers squad is bereft of any kind of real quality, and top-class signings will be required over the next few weeks, if they are to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

However, it’s a very different story for Villa and Newcastle, with Unai Emery’s side almost a lock for the Champions League spots and Eddie Howe’s team making a charge for the European places.

Taking into account the tremendous pull of Villa and Newcastle, the latest report doing the rounds should really concern the West Ham fans.

The left and right-back positions are areas where Nuno, Emery and Howe will all be keen to strengthen in the January window.

Now, all three clubs seemingly have a great chance to do just that for a real bargain fee.

The really concerning thing for the Hammers is that given their current plight, will any decent players actually want to join them this month?

According to a report from the Daily Mail, both Villa and Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo this winter.

He is allegedly available for a bargain £8 million fee as well.

Signing a player with Mingueza’s quality for that kind of money in January should be an absolute no-brainer for West Ham.

However, it may well be impossible for Nuno to get a deal over the line for the talented Celta Vigo ace now, given the interest from two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Oscar Mingueza would be a terrific signing for West Ham

Barca Universal once described Mingueza as a ‘special’ player.

However, the 26-year-old left the Camp Nou to join Celta Vigo in the summer of 2022, going on to make 122 appearances for the La Liga side.

Mingueza has bagged one goal and two assists in 15 La Liga games for Celta Vigo this season.

The 26-year-old has averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.1 clearances and 1.3 dribbles per match throughout those appearances (Who Scored).

A superb passer of the football, the gifted Spaniard is extremely technically proficient and can float into midfield from the full-back positions if need be.

Mingueza would be a top-tier signing for West Ham, but with Newcastle and Aston Villa now in the race for the Spaniard’s signature, the Hammers may well face an uphill battle.
