Aston Villa have dropped a major hint that a deal is on with West Ham for midfielder Jacob Ramsey, following talks between the two clubs.

West Ham are being linked with a fresh move for Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey after being linked with a move at the end of June.

West Ham were coy when asked about Ramsey overnight.

The Hammers’ guarded response suggested there may be progress on a deal for Ramsey after talks were reportedly held with Aston Villa for the talented 24-year-old midfield star.

Hammers linked with new move for Villa’s Ramsey

Ramsey was billed as a future England starter when he burst on the scene with Aston Villa.

He caught the eye with his powerful running, skill and dynamism.

Ramsey has fallen down the pecking order under Unai Emery, though, especially since the rise of Morgan Rogers.

When Mohammed Kudus was being sold, The Guardian claimed West Ham want Ramsey as the Ghanaian’s replacement.

Ramsey was reportedly a player Villa were willing to sell to West Ham when it looked like Emery would have to sell a key player by the end of June to raise £40m in order to comply with PSR.

In the end Villa sold their women’s team to raise those funds instead.

But it is clear Ramsey is seen as a player Villa would sacrifice to bring in cash.

Ramsey links to West Ham went quiet after the PSR compliance deadline passed.

They have reignited this week, though, after a top club insider claimed the Irons have stepped up talks with Villa in a bid to try and agree a deal with the player and club.

Ramsey is reportedly open to joining West Ham having grown frustrated with his reduced role at Aston Villa.

And it is claimed West Ham intend to convince him he can play a leading role at the London Stadium.

It should also be noted that Ramsey is represented by agent Will Salthouse, who is very close friends with West Ham chief David Sullivan and his sons.

Indeed Salthouse has been influential in West Ham’s transfer dealings for years – to the intense disapproval of some fans.

But the Unique Sports Group co-founder was a key reason behind the Hammers being able to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a bargain £15m last summer.

Now it seems there may be progress for Graham Potter’s hopes of landing Ramsey.

Aston Villa have dropped a major hint a deal is on with West Ham for Ramsey after talks.

It seems Emery is open to letting the Hammers target leave after the east Londoners stepped up their interest.

West Ham stepped up their preparations for the big Premier League kick-off with athe g 2-1 win over Everton in Chicago overnight.

Lucas Paqueta and Niclas Fullkrug got the goals.

Emery’s actions give West Ham Ramsey hope

Meanwhile in the early hours Aston Villa also secured a 2-1 win when they played against St Louis in Missouri.

The big headline from the game suggests West Ham’s move for Ramsey is very much on.

Because Ramsey was an unused substitute despite Emery using 11 subs in the game, including academy players.

West Ham target Ramsey was one of only three players not to get a single minute.

That will only fuel speculation he was being protected from any potential injury which might scupper a transfer amid the talks with West Ham.

It now feels like this particular transfer could really have legs.

And with Salthouse involved, West Ham can be confident of getting it done.
