West Ham United have been linked with plenty of strikers in the last few months let alone the last few years.
One player perhaps more consistently linked with a move to West Ham over anyone else, though, is Wissam Ben Yedder.
West Ham have tried to sign Ben Yedder on several occasions over the last five years.
Back in 2016 the Hammers moved for the then Toulouse star in both the January and summer windows (The Guardian).
West Ham and Ben Yedder perennially linked
West Ham reportedly came close to landing the diminutive France star after holding talks with the striker’s agent Meissa N’Diaye.
Hammers boss at the time Slaven Bilic was a big admirer of Ben Yedder but he ended up joining Spanish outfit Sevilla instead.
He has been linked with West Ham in every window since.
After three goal and assist laden years in Spain, Ben Yedder was again being touted for a move to West Ham.
But he moved to Monaco in 2019 where he has gone on to score 39 goals in 67 games.
West Ham have been desperate to find a top level striker and wasted £45 million on Sebastien Haller.
Moyes wanted France forward last summer according to reports
David Moyes reportedly wanted to bring Ben Yedder to West Ham last summer.
But a move never materialised. And now, with Ben Yedder turning 31 this summer, it seems unlikely a transfer to West Ham ever will.
Moyes has a policy of signing young, talented players hungry to prove themselves in the Premier League.
But finances and availability could dictate the Scot’s striker targets come the summer window.
One West Ham star has been praising Ben Yedder this week after he scored his 100th Ligue 1 goal.
Masuaku praises longstanding West Ham target after 100th Ligue 1 goal
Arthur Masuaku, a former France youth international who previously played in Ligue 1 with Valenciennes, has praised the longstanding West Ham target in a message on Twitter.
Ben Yedder is famous for being one of the best players on video game FIFA.
But Masuaku says his real life talents are just as impressive.
“Fifa (but not only) legend,” Masuaku said in response to Ben Yedder’s video post about making his century of Ligue 1 goals.
“One of the best 9 out there, 100 per cent.”
Masuaku was then flooded with pleas from West Ham fans to bring Ben Yedder to the London Stadium.
Never say never but that ship may have sailed.
However with Monaco looking set for next season’s Champions League, perhaps West Ham will end up facing the perma-linked striker next season?
