Lazio now want to sign West Ham target Piotr Zielinski and selling Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to either Manchester United or Arsenal could help facilitate that.

That’s according to a report from Italian publication Il Mattino who claim that Lazio are hoping to start a bidding war between Manchester United and Arsenal for the 27-year-old in order to raise funds to sign Zielinski from Napoli.

Manchester United and Arsenal will need to pay a minimum of €55 million (£46 million) in order to sign Milinkovic-Savic this summer according to Il Mattino.

If Lazio do manage to sell the Serbia international to either Man United or the Gunners, it would be a crushing blow to West Ham’s hopes of signing Zielinski.

Hammers boss David Moyes is desperate to bring the 72-capped Poland international to the London Stadium this summer.

And it is thought that the midfielder is now ‘seriously considering’ a move to join West Ham.

Moyes’s plan could be about to blow up in flames though…

Manchester United and Arsenal chasing Milinkovic-Savic is terrible news for West Ham hopes of signing Piotr Zielinski

Il Mattino reckon that the Red Devils and the Gunners could pick up the Lazio midfielder for around £46 million this summer.

He’d be a great signing for either of those clubs. Football Italia recently described the midfielder as an ‘unstoppable’ player. Meanwhile, The Laziali label him as ‘world-class’.

West Ham’s problem is that if the Serb does move to the Premier League, it may well signal the end of our hopes of signing Zielinski from Napoli. And that would be a huge shame for the Hammers.

The 28-year-old is undoubtedly a huge talent and has the kind of ability that would definitely take West Ham’s attacking play to another level.

Zielinski bagged eight goals and five assists in 42 games for Napoli last season and in the 2020/21 campaign, he racked up 10 goals and 13 assists in 47 games (Transfermarkt).

In 35 Serie A outings last season, the Poland international made 36.1 passes on average per game and recorded an impressive completion rate of 84.8%. He also made an average of 1.4 key passes per match (Who Scored).

PL giants could scupper Hammers hopes

Former Poland manager Paulo Sousa described the Napoli midfielder as ‘exceptional’ (The Guardian). Meanwhile, talkSPORT recently labelled him as ‘world-class’.

If West Ham manage to sign Piotr Zielinski this summer, we really will be in dreamland.

It seems as though both Manchester United and Arsenal could have a big say in our chances of doing just that though.
