West Ham United have been heavily linked with three central midfielders before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.
West Ham boss David Moyes recently revealed he was keen to sign a central midfielder as well as defenders (whufc.com).
And that was before reportedly agreeing to sell Josh Cullen to Anderlecht (Football London).
That would leave West Ham with just Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice and an ageing Mark Noble as viable central midfield options.
West Ham clearing space for new midfielder?
Central midfield is arguably the most important area of a team. So the impending sale of Cullen suggests Moyes has a new arrival lined up.
The Hammers have mostly been linked with centre-backs of late and signed right-back Vladimir Coufal for £5.5m last week.
But recently there have been persistent links to three central midfielders in particular in the shape of Rafinha, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum McGregor.
They say there is no smoke without fire. And that would suggest West Ham are hoping to sign one of the trio of midfielders before tonight’s deadline.
Rafinha, Loftus-Cheek and McGregor linked with deadline day moves to West Ham
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have claimed that West Ham have been in talks to sign Barcelona midfielder Rafinha with the Spanish giants willing to sell Rafinha for a fee of £14.5million.
Rafinha, 27, is surplus to requirements at Barcelona having returned to the club following a season-long loan spell at Celta Vigo. Celta have decided against a permanent move for Rafinha, who is the brother of Liverpool star Thiago.
And The Sun claimed yesterday that Chelsea are willing to subsidise a huge chunk of Loftus-Cheek’s wages to get him much-needed game time.
West Ham’s interest was once again referenced in the report.
Moyes hoping to land one of three quality central midfielders?
But any deals between Chelsea and West Ham would be risky business for Moyes given their much-publicised interest in Declan Rice.
The prospect of a fully fit RLC in West Ham’s midfield alongside Rice, allowing Soucek more freedom, is a tantalising one.
Then there is reported interest from Moyes in fellow Scot Callum McGregor of Celtic.
McGregor is adored by Celtic fans. And it seems former Bhoys player Moyes likes him too.

But reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee claims Moyes is a big fan of the Scotland midfielder ahead of today’s transfer deadline.
