The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah.

The German World Cup winner has lost his place in the Leverkusen side and West Ham have been alerted to his potential availability.

West Ham are leading the race to sign £25 million-rated defender Tah, according to a report from the Mirror (Sunday October 4th, page 73).

Moyes desperate for new centre-back before deadline

It comes as Hammers boss David Moyes desperately scrambles to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tomorrow.

West Ham have been linked with a plethora of centre-backs since the end of last season.

Right-back Vladimir Coufal is the only new arrival so far this summer and impressed on his debut in the 3-0 win at Leicester.

Moyes has missed out on a host of reported defensive targets from Shane Duffy to James Tarkowski, Wesley Fofana and Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car.

But now ExWHUemployee has delivered a big update on West Ham’s chase for Tah.

ExWHUemployee delivers big update on West Ham’s Tah pursuit

The anonymous Twitter and podcast personality says Tah is Moyes’s prime target and West Ham are trying to seal a loan deal with the option to buy.

But Ex admits the Hammers have some concerns about Tah’s lack of pace.

“We are trying to sign the player (Tah) on loan with an option to buy and have been trying for a number of weeks,” ExWHUemployee said on Twitter.

“There are some concerns over his pace so we want to try him before we buy him.”

Back three success should allay Hammers concerns

West Ham should not be overly concerned by Tah’s lack of pace.

Fabian Balbuena has shown that you can get away with that when playing in a back three.

But while Balbuena’s distribution is sorely lacking, Tah’s is excellent.

If West Ham can sign Tah and a quality midfielder, it would have to go down as a good window for the east Londoners all things considered.
