Another one bites the dust as West Ham officially miss out on brilliant free agent

West Ham target Matthias Ginter has agreed to join Freiburg as a free agent at the end of the season.

The news was confirmed on Borussia Monchengladbach’s official website and it’s a big blow for the Hammers.

David Moyes wanted to bring the 28-year-old to the London Stadium in the summer according to a report from Sky Sports.

And his availability on a free transfer represented West Ham with a fantastic chance to secure a truly stunning bargain deal in the summer.

Ginter can play in both the centre-back and deep-lying central midfield positions. So the fact that he was available on a free transfer meant that the Hammers couldn’t really afford to miss out on him. That’s exactly what we’ve done unfortunately though…

West Ham miss out on free agent

Matthias Ginter has agreed to join his former club Freiburg on a three-year deal.

That really is bad news for the Hammers. David Moyes should have been all over a deal to bring Ginter to the London Stadium. Maybe he was and the Germany international chose to reject us…nobody actually knows for sure.

He has played 26 Bundesliga games for Gladbach this season. During those outings, the 28-year-old has averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3 clearances per game. He’s also won an average of 2.9 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).

Ginter has made 67.2 passes on average per game and has recorded a completion rate of 83.6% (Who Scored).

The German is clearly very good in the air and with the ball at his feet.

It is clear that he would have made a huge impact at the London Stadium. He would have been a sensational addition for the Hammers, that cannot be denied.

And West Ham missing out on the 28-year-old free agent will be a big blow. Who knows though…perhaps Moyes and the Hammers have someone even better lined up. You’d like to think they do wouldn’t you!
