“An offer from West Ham”: National team coach says David Moyes made a bid to sign winger in January

Northern Ireland youth coach Gerard Lyttle has suggested that West Ham have made a bid for incredibly talented young winger Sean Moore.

The Hammers were heavily linked with a move to sign the Cliftonville wonderkid on transfer deadline day last month (Belfast Live).

David Moyes couldn’t get a deal over the line in the end, and the 17-year-old missed out on a big move to the London Stadium.

Sean Moore is a real talent, and has bagged three goals and two assists in 26 senior appearances for Cliftonville (Transfermarkt).

And it seems as though his fine form in Northern Ireland attracted the attention of West Ham…

West Ham made bid for young winger Sean Moore

The Hammers made a concrete move to sign the talented teenager in the January transfer window.

Well, that’s what Northern Ireland youth coach Gerard Lyttle has told Belfast Live anyway:

“I think there was an offer from West Ham, around the £200,000 mark. I watched him last Saturday. It was probably one of his quieter games, yet he scored a goal and won a penalty. So, he had a real impact on the result. I have said it before that it is important we don’t put too much pressure on the kid. He is developing and will have inconsistent performances. He needs good people around him to manage him when things aren’t going great. There will be ups and downs. In a selfish way, I am glad he is staying (at Cliftonville). He is playing men’s football every week, and he will come into the Northern Ireland Under 19s a year young.”

It will be interesting to see whether West Ham go back in for Moore in the summer transfer window.

The problem for the Hammers is that we face competition from the likes of Newcastle United and Celtic (Independent and Daily Mirror).

It’s no surprise that West Ham made a bid for the young Northern Irish winger. We seem to have been targeting the best young Irishman recently including Patrick Kelly and Callum Marshall.

I think Sean Moore is a hugely exciting young talent and could be a real star of the future. He is definitely one for West Ham fans to keep an eye on ahead of the summer transfer window.
