Alphonse Areola appears to have dropped a major hint over his West Ham future after links with former club Fulham.
West Ham signed Areola on a season-long loan from PSG last summer with an option to buy after he had impressed for Fulham the season prior.
The Cottagers may have been relegated that season but Areola was named their player of the year.
And the towering Frenchman has been seriously impressive when called upon for West Ham in the Europa League and cups this season.
There has been claim and counter claim over Areola’s future ahead of the summer window, which opens next month. Some reports claim West Ham will sign him permanently for around £11m.
Other outlets report that Areola may sign a fresh season-long loan deal with West Ham.
Worryingly for Hammers fans desperate to see the 6ft 5in goalkeeper join them on a permanent basis, his old club Fulham have been heavily linked with a move following their return to the Premier League.
And the suggestion is that Fulham may have the upper hand because he would be number one at Craven Cottage whereas he has been number two behind Lukasz Fabianski in the Premier League this season.
That is a real concern for West Ham fans who feel the 29-year-old France international is the ideal successor to Fabianski and could be the club’s number one for the next five or six years.
Well now it seems there is good news for the Hammers and bad news for Fulham.
Because Areola has dropped a major hint over his West Ham future after links with former club Fulham.
Speaking in an interview with West Ham’s official website, Areola said he is ‘loving life in east London with the Hammers’.
And he has told West Ham fans ‘the story is not finished’.
“When you are a football and you play, you’re just enjoying every moment,” Areola told whufc.com.
“I’ve enjoyed every moment since I arrived here when I signed and when I took the first pictures with my new jersey and my new number, so I enjoyed every moment with everyone here.
“The story is not finished, so hopefully we’ll see!”
Getting Areola’s West Ham future sorted early will set the tone for a huge transfer window at the London Stadium.
David Moyes faces a big rebuild this summer and losing Areola to Fulham would be a blow.
So Areola’s comments will come as a massive relief to West Ham fans and Moyes.
Now let’s hope the club get the deal done.
