West Ham United striker Sebastien Haller is set to have a medical at Ajax today ahead of a permanent move.

What Mark Noble and Declan Rice said about striker backs up insider’s claim

That’s according to a new report from The Athletic.

It seems Haller’s hugely frustrating 18 month spell at West Ham is nearing an end.

Conflicting reports over Haller move

Reports emerged last night that West Ham will sell Haller to Ajax for around £20million – £25million less than they paid for their club record signing (L’Equipe).

There was a twist this morning when Sky Sports claimed West Ham are yet to agree a fee with Ajax and could hold on to Haller until the summer when it would be easier to sign a replacement.

But The Athletic has now claimed Haller’s medical in Amsterdam has been booked for today (Thursday January 7th 2021).

“The transfer is worth less than half the £45 million West Ham paid Eintracht Frankfurt for the 26-year-old in the summer of 2019,” Athletic reporters David Ornstein and Roshane Thomas claim.

Medical booked for today as striker craves reunion with old Utrecht boss – report

The Athletic understands that an agreement between the two clubs is nearing, with the striker likely to travel to Amsterdam to complete the deal today.

“Haller wants to reunite with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who previously coached him at Utrecht, with West Ham ready to allow their club record signing to move on.”

The French-born Ivorian has divided opinion at West Ham.

Some feel Haller does not work hard enough and lacks the pace, mobility, desire and workrate to be a success in the Premier League – particularly as a lone striker in West Ham’s setup.

Not up to it or mismanaged? The only opinion that matters is that of Moyes

Others feel he has been misused and mismanaged ever since he arrived at West Ham for £45m back in the summer of 2019.

Haller showed flashes of his talent – such as his stupendous overhead kick against Crystal Palace which won December’s goal of the month.

But the only man whose opinion truly matters, David Moyes, is not a fan.

And he will surely now look to use the funds to sign at least one replacement striker.

West Ham have been linked with several forwards including Abdullah Sima, Marko Arnautovic and Josh King.
