Ajax boss responds as brilliant midfielder Mohammed Kudus is linked with Edson Alvarez reunion at West Ham.

West Ham have been linked with a second raid on Dutch giants Ajax – this time for Ghanaian midfield dynamo Mohammed Kudus.

Back in October last year, German outlet Bild – as well as KUMB and us here on Hammers News – reported claims that West Ham were seriously interested in Kudus.

The rumours back then were that West Ham were eyeing a January move for the 23-year-old, who can play in a host of positions including winger, wide forward and striker.

That move never materialised and Kudus remained with Ajax where he had been playing alongside new Hammers signing Edson Alvarez.

There was excitement this weekend when claims emerged linking West Ham with a move to sign Kudus after a reported transfer to Brighton was called off.

As well as West Ham, Kudus has also been linked with the likes of Chelsea – who hasn’t after all?

That has prompted the Dutch club’s manager Maurice Steijn to speak out.

The Ajax boss has responded as brilliant midfielder Kudus is linked with an Alvarez reunion at West Ham.

Although Steijn admitted ‘there are things going on around him’ he insists there is ‘nothing’ to suggest he will be leaving for West Ham or anywhere else for that matter.

“I have read a lot of reports about Kudus this week but there is literally nothing right now that points to him leaving,” Steijn said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

“I spoke to him this week and he is fully focused on Ajax.

“He is a jewel for Ajax.”

Kudus duly played and scored in Ajax’s league opener against Heracles on Saturday, helping them to a 4-1 win.

West Ham are, however, expected to complete the signing of dead ball specialist James Ward-Prowse on Monday.

He will then likely be available to face Chelsea next weekend.

But David Moyes has said he needs to see Alvarez’s condition in training this week before deciding whether to bring the Mexican into the side.
