West Ham United transfer target Aaron Hickey is allegedly all set to join Brentford this summer in a £14 million deal.

That’s according to a report from football journalist Fabrizio Romano who claims that the 20-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with the Bees.

That is really bad news for West Ham.

The Hammers allegedly made an official offer for the Scottish left-back last month.

Unfortunately for us though, it appears as though Brentford have beaten us to the punch.

David Moyes really needs to bring a top-class left-back to the London Stadium this summer.

In order to make some real progress, the Scot needs to make a big upgrade on Aaron Cresswell. Hickey would have been the ideal summer signing so the fact that we have allowed Brentford to beat us to his signature is actually baffling…

Aaron Hickey set for Brentford move

The 20-year-old left-back looks all set to leave Serie A for the Premier League.

It’s little wonder why…he is a truly outstanding young talent.

Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter and confirmed that Hickey is Brentford bound:

Losing out on Hickey to Brentford really is inexcusable. He would have been absolutely perfect for us.

Hickey joined Bologna from Hearts in September 2020 for just £1.5 million (BBC).

He has been a huge hit in Italy, bagging five goals in 48 games (Transfermarkt).

All of those goals came in 36 appearances last season. The 20-year-old averaged 1.3 tackles and one interception per game last term. He made 27.4 passes per match on average and recorded an impressive completion rate of 83% (Who Scored).

Hickey has absolutely everything needed to succeed in the Premier League. He’s fast, energetic, dynamic, is a very solid defender and possesses an exceptional delivery.

The young Scot was recently described as the new Gareth Bale (Daily Record) and he possesses similar attributes to Liverpool ace Andy Robertson and Arsenal star Kieran Tierney. He has also been described as an incredible player by BT Sport.

If Hickey continues to work hard and applies himself properly both on and off the pitch, he could become a truly top-class Premier League player.

The Scot could have been a huge upgrade on Aaron Cresswell at the London Stadium.

With Aaron Hickey set to join Brentford though, it’s another case of West Ham missing out on a promising player this summer. Let’s hope that this isn’t a sign of things to come.
