The full-back department feels ripe for investment at West Ham United, and it appears that those in charge at the Premier League outfit agree.
Vladimir Coufal appears likely to depart the London Stadium after contract talks hit an impasse.
On the other side of the pitch, Aaron Cresswell is not getting any younger. Reports suggest that West Ham are looking to sell Emerson Palmieri too. The former Chelsea man has just one year left on his own deal, while Graham Potter is clearly a fan of young Oliver Scarles.
The beauty of bringing Felix Agu to West Ham United, then, is that the Werder Bremen’s two-footed, two-flanked full-back could provide competition on both the right and the left-hand side.
The Hammers would have to move quick to get Agu through the door, however.
As Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg explains, the release clause in his Werder Bremen contract expires at the end of this month. Until then, Agu will be available for somewhere in the region of £8 million.

Werder Bremen’s Felix Agu reacts after West Ham United interest
A key part of a Werder side still dreaming of European football – they are only two points adrift of Borussia Dortmund in eighth as things stand – Agu is a right-footed full-back who tends to play on the left-hand side.
Eighteen of his 19 Bundesliga appearances this season have seen him start on the left. However, the 25-year-old former Germany Under-21 international has also played plenty of times on the right throughout his rather slow-burning career.
Meaning that, for a reported £8 million, West Ham could bring in a replacement for Vladimir Coufal while also adding further competition on the left. Two birds with one stone, and all that.
Speaking to Weser Kurier this week, Agu would not give much away when discussing a potential summer departure from the 13-time Bundesliga champions. He did, however, take the time to impress upon supporters just how much he is loving life at the Weser Stadium.
This does not sound like a man in a rush to pack his bags. Qualification for Europe – even the Europa Conference League – could be enough to keep the ex-VfL Osnabruck man in situ for another season.
“Of course, I heard the news [about the interest from West Ham and co],” smiles Agu, who has also been linked with Fulham. “For me, it’s about us achieving the best possible result this season with Werder.
“I feel very comfortable here. I like the team. I like the club. It’s a dream for every footballer to play in Europe at some point, to be able to play under floodlights during the week. Not just in the cup, but also on the international stage.”
Agu conflicted as Vladimir Coufal plans to stay in the Premier League
Agu does admit, however, that the odd season in continental competition is likely to represent a one-off for Werder Bremen. If he stays for another year, and suffers an injury or a dip in form, would this represent an end to his chances of a move to England?
These are all factors he must consider.
As for the aforementioned Coufal, West Ham’s Czech Republic international was more forthright when discussing his own future a few weeks ago.
In an ideal world, Coufal would prefer to stay in the Premier League. Though whether that means he will have to leave The Hammers for another top-flight club, only time will tell.
“When I am free, anything can happen,” Coufal told Czech publication iDNES. “But my priority is England, the best league in the world.
“I want to prove to myself week after week that I have what it takes.”
