That’s according to a report from Calcio Mercato who claim that his future could now very well lie away from El Monumental.
And that could be great news for the Hammers.
West Ham boss David Moyes wants to bring the 21-year-old Argentinian striker to the London Stadium in January according to a report from El Intrasigente.
Alvarez is available for just £21 million (El Intrasigente).
West Ham January target plays last game for club?
It certainly seems that way.
Calcio Mercato claims that Alvarez’s two goals for River Plate in the Trofeo de Campeones against Colon in the early hours of this morning could be the last time he scores for the famous Argentine side.
The brace took his tally to 20 goals and seven assists in just 22 games for River this term.
Alvarez would be the ideal signing for West Ham. We won’t have things all our own way, however, with Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan all believed to be in the race for his signature.
He possesses blistering pace, is strong in the air and on the ground and plays with typical Argentinian heart and passion.
In other words, he’s the absolutely perfect signing for David Moyes and would slot into the current West Ham team seamlessly.
He was recently described as a ‘special, special talent’ by the Birmingham Mail.
West Ham should be going all out to bring the 21-year-old River plate hitman to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.
It won’t be easy, as mentioned earlier, with so many illustrious clubs in the running to secure his signature.
The Hammers owners need to back Moyes to the hilt with this one though. The owe the Scot after what he has done for West Ham since returning to the London Stadium.
Alvarez would be a statement signing. He has the ability to help transcend the Hammers as a football club. He is a truly special talent and is the kind of player who the West Ham fans would absolutely love. Cult hero status awaits him in East London. Whether we manage to get a deal done for him, however, is another matter entirely.
