West Ham boss David Moyes is allegedly eyeing up a January transfer for Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd.
Central defence is an area where the Hammers manager desperately needs to bolster this month.
And according to a report from L’Equipe, Moyes could go shopping in France for a solution to that particular problem in the January transfer window.
West Ham’s need for a top-class centre-back has been well-documented.
Angelo Ogbonna is out for the season. Meanwhile, Kurt Zouma won’t be back for another four weeks or so after suffering a hamstring tendon injury.
The Hammers are flying high in the Premier League and have a Europa League tie in March to look forward to. We need to make a few top-class additions though, if we are carry on and push for real success this season.
West Ham boss Moyes eyes January transfer for Aguerd
The 10-capped Morocco international is firmly on the Hammers’ radar according to a report from L’Equipe.
The 25-year-old centre-back is very highly rated in France and has enjoyed a magnificent campaign in Ligue 1 so far this season.
Aguerd has bagged two goals and one assist in 18 league games for Rennes this term. During those outings, the Moroccan has averaged 3.9 clearances and 3.6 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).
In those 18 appearances, the 25-year-old has made an average of 72.9 passes per game and has recorded an incredibly impressive completion rate of 89.9% (Who Scored).
Aguerd stands at 6ft 2in tall. He is very good in the air and is an impressive reader of the game.
The 25-year-old proved just how good he is back in November with an imperious display against Paris Saint-Germain. He kept Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar quiet during a 2-0 win for Rennes.
One question that needs to be asked is whether the Rennes ace is strong enough for the Premier League what with its robust and intense nature.
Aguerd has a slight frame and he might struggle physically in the English top flight. David Moyes would undoubtedly have done his due diligence on the Moroccan though…he always does with potential new signings.
He could be available for around £17 million according to GFFN.
And if the 25-year-old rocks up at the London Stadium this month, we should all get behind him. We think he could end up being a very good signing indeed. Whether we mange to get a deal over the line for Aguerd remains to be seen though.
