Former West Ham United manager David Moyes is on record as saying he does not believe the club should even be in a position to be relegated this season.
West Ham United need an almighty favour from Moyes on the final day of the season to secure their Premier League safety.
While Nuno Espirito Santo’s side desperately need to beat Leeds on Sunday, they must also hope that Moyes leads his Everton team to a win over relegation rivals Tottenham.
We NEED David Moyes’ help again! 🙏 Tell us your prediction for Tottenham vs Everton…
Everton's impressive away record gives us hope! 🤞
Though Moyes is undoubtedly a West Ham legend already, the Scot will clearly cement that status further if he plays a role in keeping the Irons in the Premier League on Sunday.
Sunday is dripping with narrative for so many reasons and it’s worth looking back on what Moyes recently said about the mere prospect of his old club being relegated.
Moyes does not think West Ham should get relegated
Asked about West Ham’s plight this season before his Everton team played and lost at the London Stadium last month, Moyes said: “A really, really good football club which certainly shouldn’t be going into the Championship. That’s the way I look at it but the Premier League is unforgiving.
“If you’re not quite at it, you don’t recruit right or you don’t spend enough, you could find yourself in that position every year.”
Clearly, West Ham are still heavy favourites to get relegated instead of Spurs.
WE’RE STILL ALIVE 😍😍 How has Tottenham’s defeat made YOU feel about our survival chances?!
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! 😂
Their position is about as perilous as it comes heading into the final game of what has largely been a miserable campaign, yet the fact they are alive is significant.
Spurs have had two opportunities to all-but bury West Ham in recent weeks and have failed to take any of them.
There is little point in pretending that this is a good situation to be in but it could – and should – have been a lot worse.
West Ham have broadly been solid at home in recent weeks, while the bulk of Everton’s success this season has come on the road.
Nothing is guaranteed but the conditions are certainly there of a dramatic great escape on the final day of the season.
Once again, West Ham are relying on Moyes to get them out of the stickiest of situations.
