Boyhood West Ham United fan and former player Lee Bowyer has a word of warning for his old club.

Has Moyes strongly hinted at moves for Serie A star and Prem outcast in update?

West Ham have endured a poor start to the new Premier League season with back-to-back defeats to Newcastle and Arsenal.

Those losses sandwiched a decent performance in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic, managed by Bowyer.

West Ham scraped survival in the penultimate game of last season.

Hammers being tipped for relegation

Now West Ham fans and many in the media are gravely concerned the club will be relegated this season.

West Ham have a horrendous run of fixtures on the horizon.

And alarm bells are already ringing after the east Londoners failed to turn up against Newcastle on the opening day, then somehow conspired to lose against Arsenal despite being the better side.

Bowyer said last week it is his dream to one day manage West Ham (talkSPORT).

The former midfielder had a front row seat watching his boyhood club in the cup defeat to the Hammers.

And he has warned David Moyes and his players they must be more ‘ruthless’ if West Ham are to start winning games.

Bowyer warns West Ham they must be more ruthless

“At half time we had a word, I said ‘believe’ and in the second half I thought we were the better side, I thought we were the most dangerous,” Bowyer said of his League One side against West Ham (CAFC).

“In and around the box they’ve got a lot of good footballers. They’ve got some good players in that final third.

“They’ve got some quality players, you can see that. I think they need to be a little bit more ruthless. I think first half they could have put it to bed. They’ve got a good squad, a strong squad.”

Moyes must start to get his side winning

West Ham must start being more ruthless tomorrow night when they entertain Hull City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Hammers then face Wolves at home on Sunday night as the pressure increases to get their first league points of the season.

Bowyer’s comments will raise question marks – yet again – over Moyes’s reluctance to use £45million striker Sebastien Haller.

The Frenchman was in good form in pre-season. And he continued that with two goals against Charlton last week.

But Haller was on the bench for both the Newcastle and Arsenal defeats.
