Has David Moyes strongly hinted at moves for Takehiro Tomiyasu and Calum Chambers in West Ham transfer update?

West Ham United boss David Moyes dropped a telling hint when providing a transfer update over the weekend.

Insider says West Ham stars tell him Moyes outcast is the best player in training

West Ham remain the only Premier League club not to have signed a new player this summer.

The Hammers are in disarray and have got the season off to a poor start with back-to-back defeats.

Moyes delivered some positive news on the transfer front at the weekend.

‘Signings edging closer’ – Moyes

He told the press ahead of the 2-1 loss at Arsenal that he was ‘edging closer’ to making signings.

And he appeared to drop a big hint over two particular targets West Ham have been heavily linked with, Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu and Arsenal outcast Calum Chambers.

According to a report from Corriere di Bologna (September 5th, page 9), West Ham have enquired about Bologna star Tomiyasu.

And The Telegraph claims Moyes wants Gunners defender Chambers.

Of all the players West Ham have been linked with of late both Tomiyasu and Chambers can play both centre-back and full-back.

Has Hammers boss dropped hint over Tomiyasu and Chambers moves?

And when speaking to the press at the weekend Moyes dropped a big hint.

“We would probably like to add a left-back, a central defender, a right-back, or players who play centre-back and full-back positions or vice versa,” Moyes said, as reported by the likes of Claret & Hugh.

“I think it’s a bit of both (loan and permanent signings). Some players with clubs are happy to loan out but maybe not sell. Some are very extensive and are taking loans, plus bits of options after it.

“There’s no real clear cut answer but we are trying to get them in whatever way we think is right.”

Versatility will be key for Moyes.

Versatility the order of the day for West Ham

West Ham were reportedly quoted around £18million for Tomiyasu.

Chambers would be somewhat of an underwhelming signing. He has been out for six months with a serious knee injury – a ruptured ACL – and made just 14 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season.

At 21 and with a range of passing rarely seen from a defender, Tomiyasu is an infinitely more appealing signing.

He was a revelation in Serie A last season, playing both centre-back and right-back.

West Ham fans will be watching developments with interest this week as the clock ticks down on the transfer window with exactly two weeks left until it slams shut.
