Paul Merson has got it horribly wrong with his claim about West Ham duo Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio.

The Hammers play host to Wolves at the London Stadium in the 17:30 Premier League kick-off for what is a hugely important game for both sides.

West Ham have been in terrible form in the Premier League so far this season, and we are currently marooned inside the bottom three.

One of the main criticisms of David Moyes is that he has continued to stick with his old favourites.

This is incredibly frustrating for the fans because it is the same players letting us down week in, week out.

And annoyingly, Moyes allegedly plans to make only two or three changes against Wolves tomorrow.

If that is the case, we can’t see anything but another disappointing afternoon at the London Stadium. David Moyes clearly thinks that sweeping changes are not needed. And Paul Merson appears to have fallen into the same trap…

Paul Merson makes claim about West Ham duo Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio

The high-profile pundit suggested that the Hammers need to revert to the ‘blueprint’ of Bowen and Antonio hitting teams on the counter attack, when writing his regular column for Sportskeeda:

West Ham’s big names haven’t hit the levels they achieved last season. They aren’t a free-scoring side, and they’ll need to find a way to score the first goal. When they do, they’re solid at the back and force the other team to chase the game. They’ve got Antonio and Bowen on the counter, and they’ll need to go back to that blueprint.

The thing that Merson is missing is that it is that exact blueprint that has caused us so many problems over the past 6-9 months.

Other teams have wised up to our counter attacking step now.

Bowen should be nowhere near there starting XI at the moment.

Also, David Moyes has said numerous times that he wants his team to evolve into more of a possession based side rather than a counter-attacking one.

West Ham duo Bowen and Antonio have been found out in my opinion. In no way should West Ham be reverting to something that hasn’t worked for nearly a year.
