Yet another MOTD farce for West Ham as Ian Wright and Gary Lineker apologise to Wolves

After a rare win at Wolves in a non-televised Premier League clash many West Ham fans may have given MOTD another chance.

Those who did after the West Ham farce on the fading BBC flagship show last weekend, will wish they hadn’t.

West Ham came from behind for the third time in a week to beat Wolves 2-1 in the Premier League clash at Molineux.

It means West Ham now likely need just three more wins to secure a European place next season.

And if Man United lose by three goals to Liverpool on Sunday, the Hammers will go sixth.

West Ham were feeling hard done by once again when a penalty gave Wolves the lead at half-time.

But David Moyes made changes at the break and it paid off as West Ham performed much better as a result.

Emerson Palmieri thought he had equalised when he headed home at the far post. But yet again West Ham saw a goal ruled out despite minimal contact.

West Ham got a penalty for a clear handball shortly after and then James Ward-Prowse scored directly from a corner.

There was drama in the 110th minute when Max Kilman headed home. But after a review on the pitchside VAR monitor, the goal was ruled out for offside.

Another farce as Lineker and Wright apologise

West Ham were on the end of more farcical officiating and VAR calls in the 4-3 defeat at Newcastle last weekend.

But West Ham fans hoping to see the incidents analysed on Match of the Day were left bitterly disappointed.

Presented by Alex Scott with Stephen Warnock and Martin Keown as pundits, none of the incidents were analysed after the game.

Not one. Despite it being the main game neither penalty incident was looked at and neither was the Dan Burn barge on Mohammed Kudus. They were not even mentioned let alone analysed.

Fast forward a week and with a VAR call finally going in West Ham’s favour at Wolves, you can guess what happened next.

Not only did Match of the Day dedicate a full FIVE minutes to blasting the officials for the decision to rule out Wolves’ goal.

Where was all this fuss when Hammers were wronged?

But host Lineker and pundit Wright rather bizarrely apologised to Wolves on several occasions about the decision.

The repeated apologies came rather ironically after they showed the rule which makes it clear the goal could not stand by the letter of the law.

They even criticised IFAB over the rule and called for it to be changed.

And of course no mention of West Ham being in the mix for the top six or anything like that.

There was a time when Match of the Day was the benchmark for Premier League football analysis and highlights.

But those days are long gone.

West Ham fans waiting to watch the repeat or on catch-up this morning, don’t waste your time.

Just watch the highlights here instead.
