What Vladimir Coufal and Declan Rice did to West Ham fans locked in the Lyon stadium will go down in Hammers folklore.

There are moments in a club’s history that last the generations.

And last night’s epic 3-0 win at Lyon, which sealed West Ham’s place in the Europa League semi-finals, was certainly one of them.

West Ham fans still talk about their brilliant Intertoto Cup win over Metz.

But this win in Lyon eclipsed that and then some.

Players have moments which go down in West Ham folklore too.

Whether it is Frank Lampard dancing around the corner flag, Paolo Di Canio sitting on the turf in protest having been ignored for a host of penalties or Michail Antonio holding a cardboard cutout of himself aloft after breaking the club’s Premier League goalscoring record.

Well what Coufal and Rice did to West Ham fans locked in the Lyon stadium will go down in folklore too.

The first was Coufal.

As West Ham’s players went over to celebrate with the Hammers fans stuck up in the Gods at a fast emptying Groupama Stadium they were pelted with flags and bottles by departing Lyon supporters.

So Coufal picked up one of the red flags and started waving it around to a huge roar of delight from the watching West Ham fans.

You can see that moment in these brilliant videos posted by West Ham’s media team last night.

Then after the Lyon fans had long gone, a group of West Ham players led by Rice went back over to the fans locked in the ground.

With his finger to his lips Rice gestured to the fans to be quiet.

And as the thousands of jubilant West Ham fans fell silent, Rice then belted out the chant ‘West Ham are massive’ to get things rocking.

Absolutely priceless memories.

What a night for West Ham and our long suffering fans.

David Moyes take a bow.
