What the Italian media are saying about Niclas Fullkrug as West Ham flop scores first AC Milan goal

West Ham United loanee Niclas Fullkrug is off the mark as an AC Milan player.

The German international endured a miserable time of things while clad in claret and blue but his reputation was such that he somewhat surprisingly secured a move to one of Europe’s most storied clubs.

Fullkrug initially struggled at Milan and that will have been of little surprise to West Ham United fans, who saw him score only three goals in 29 games for the club.

The chances of escaping relegation just went up 👆

However, it was a good weekend for the ageing strike force West Ham once relied upon. Callum Wilson, who now looks set to stay in east London, bagged the winner for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side against Tottenham.

Fullkrug, meanwhile, scored Milan’s only goal in a tight win over Leece that kept them three points behind rivals Inter at the top of the Serie A table.

Here’s how the Italian media reacted.

Italian media praise West Ham flop Niclas Fullkrug

It was a fairly routine header from Fullkrug, with most of the work done by the excellent Alexis Saelemaekers to tee him up.

Still, it obviously went down well.

TuttomercatoWeb hailed the former Borussia Dortmund forward as a “serious striker” when handing him a rating of 7.5/10.

“In such a tight match, a serious striker was needed.”

SempreMilan, meanwhile, rated Fullkrug a 7/10: “The match-winner. Exactly why he was brought in: one chance, one goal off his head. Proof that against the low block having someone like Fullkrug is a real weapon.”

Who will prove to be a better signing and why?! 🤔

Niclas Fullkrug drops hint over long-term future after scoring first AC Milan goal

Fullkrug’s choice of words on social media platform Instagram were interesting after the game.

He posted a collage of images of himself celebrating and captioned it: “Incredibly happy and proud to score my first goal in this insane atmosphere, my new home!”

He is, of course, only on loan at Milan – although there is an option to buy this summer.

The fact that the forward believes the San Siro is now his “home” perhaps suggests there is very little chance of him ever returning to West Ham.

Fullkrug did not enjoy his time at West Ham and the Hammers themselves have moved on from him.
