Niclas Fullkrug makes statement after underwhelming San Siro debut following West Ham exit

It won’t particularly surprise many West Ham United fans, but Niclas Fullkrug is yet to score for AC Milan.

Fullkrug, of course, flopped at West Ham United following a huge move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024.

The German scored only three goals in 29 games for the club and represents yet more poor decision making on the recruitment front when it comes to signing strikers.

Out of 10, how CONFIDENT are you that Nuno can still save West Ham?

Beating QPR in the FA Cup is a start…

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo of West Ham United attends the post-match press conference during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at London Stadium on January 6, 2026 in London, England.

Still, he’s clearly a highly-rated figure within the game. Fullkrug has joined AC Milan on loan and while they are not the force of old, they are challenging for the Serie A title this season.

Milan have been surprised by Fullkrug’s fitness levels, and he’s already made two appearances off the bench for the Italian giants.

His first outing came in a win over Cagliari earlier this month and the 32-year-old has now made his bow at the San Siro, one of the world’s most iconic stadiums.

The forward came off the bench again on Thursday night as Milan drew 1-1 at home with Genoa to leave them three points off rivals Inter in the title race.

Rafael Leao struck a 91st minute goal to ensure they were left with a point, at least.

After the game, Fullkrug – who played for around 25 minutes – took to Instagram.

He wrote: “Very proud of my debut at San Siro – although I would‘ve preferred to celebrate it with three points!

“We had our chances, now it’s up to us to improve in the next game.

“Thank you, Rossoneri, for your warm welcome and great support today! See you on Sunday vs Fiorentina!”

How Niclas Fullkrug performed for AC Milan on his San Siro

Taty Castellanos already looks like an upgrade on Fullkrug for West Ham, with his mobility much better suited to life in the Premier League.

It will be fascinating to see what happens with Fullkrug, however.

The fact that a Milan side battling for a title saw something in him would suggest he’s perhaps not the lost cause he looked like while clad in claret and blue.

If he does well, it’s yet more questions for the recruitment team at West Ham. If he doesn’t, then perhaps it’s more of a reflection on the player’s quality in general.

These are early days in his Milan career but Fullkrug will need to improve.

As per FotMob data, the German had two shots but neither found the target. He amassed only nine touches, while creating one chance.

He didn’t win an aerial duel, either.

Though not exactly dreadful, Fullkrug isn’t showing much to suggest he can make a telling impact on Milan’s title challenge.
