'What a laughable situation': Some West Ham fans fume as striker news emerges from the London Stadium

West Ham fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to the news that striker Michail Antonio will be heading off on international duty with Jamaica later this week.

The 31-year-old Hammers attacker has been fairly poor over the past couple of months.

Antonio has scored only two goals in his last 13 games for West Ham (Soccerbase).

Micky has clearly been suffering from over exertion recently. The powerful striker is in desperate need of more cover and competition.

As things stand though, he doesn’t have that at the London Stadium. And that means that David Moyes has to play him week in, week out.

The two-week Premier League break seemed like the perfect time for Antonio to get some much needed rest.

However, that will not be the case now.

The 31-year-old has been called up by Jamaica for their World Cup Qualifiers over the coming weeks.

The Reggae Boyz have games against Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica during a three-day period starting on Friday January 28th.

The fact that Antonio faces an 11,000 mile round trip and could play three games in just six days doesn’t even bear thinking about.

It really is hugely concerning given the striker’s history with injuries.

Surely this will force the West Ham owners’ hand in the January transfer window…surely.

The 31-year-old has put in under-par displays on numerous occasions over the past few months.

Antonio has been lethargic, looks to be low on confidence and the truth of the matter is that he has been entirely ineffective.

And with the possibility of three games in just six days on the other side of the world to come for Antonio, many West Ham fans are incredibly concerned considering the fact that he is the club’s only striker…
